The longer version
I grew up with the radio on. I never really turned it off.
It started when I was 7. My dad gave me my first Marantz tuner, I landed on KKLI 106.3 out of Colorado Springs, and that was it. I’d call the station to dedicate songs to my babysitter and beg them for a job. I was pretty sure the people talking between the songs had the best job in the world. Turns out I was right.
I finally got my shot for real in the fall of 2003 at KTSC-FM, while I was a student at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Since then I’ve worked for Clear Channel, Citadel, Bonneville, Dial Global, Westwood One and plenty of others, picking up something new at every stop.
These days you can catch me weekday afternoons on 99.5 The Mountain, where I’m also the Program Director. So if you’ve ever wondered who decides what you hear on the drive home, that’s partly me. In 2024 The Mountain picked up a Marconi Award, which is basically the Oscars of radio, for best rock station.
2025 was a big one. We reshaped The Mountain’s sound in August, and by December we’d grown our share with adults 35–64 by more than half, finishing the year at #2 in Denver. Off the air, my Veterans Day radiothon for Project Sanctuary raised $35,000, which got matched to $70,000 for military families and veterans. I also got to emcee the Angel Eyes Suds for SIDS Beerfest, supporting families who’ve lost a child.
I’m also on 96.5 WCMF in Rochester, New York, and I host the Classic Hits afternoon show for Local Radio Networks, so you can hear me on affiliates all over the country. I also program 98.9 The Buzz in Rochester, and over the years I’ve worked across just about every format you can name: rock, country, Top 40, sports, news/talk and plenty in between.
On The Dan Hardee Show, the goal is simple: make the ride home feel like somebody interesting just hopped in your passenger seat. That’s where you get Dan’s Totally Random Trivia, Dan’s Bad Advice and the stories behind songs you already know by heart.
Off the air, I’ve spent 20+ years DJing and emceeing weddings, private parties, galas and corporate events through Dan Hardee Entertainment. Radio taught me how to hit a cue, read a room and stay calm when the timeline falls apart. If you’ve ever planned an event, you know that happens.
